UNSW CFRC - Air Temperature from 21 Weather Stations Sydney (Point) 2016-2019

This dataset presents the location of points representing air temperature data captured at weather stations across the Greater Sydney area. The data was recorded to understand the pattern of temperature distribution and urban heat island hot spot zones in Sydney. The data extent covers a large land area from the eastern coastal zone (e.g. Coogee Beach) to the western inland parts (e.g. Penrith and Campbelltown). Outdoor temperature was recorded at an interval of 30 minutes.

The data was recorded from weather stations specifically designed and constructed for the study. The temperature logger was protected in a timber cage. To monitor temperature continuously in several locations, portability of the instruments with quick set up capacity was of great importance. Therefore, the instruments were fitted on the transportable vertical steel pole.

• Instrumentation consisted of Logtag TRIX-16 temperature recorders.

• The Logtag TRIX-16 temperature recorder features high resolution temperature readings over a measurement range of -40 deg C to +85 deg C, with the resolution of 0.1 deg C and the accuracy of +/-0.5 deg C for temperature between -20 deg C and +40 deg C and +/-0.7 deg C for temperature range of +40 deg C to +60 deg C.

• The LogTag Analyzer software and reader were used to archive the data and export them to other programs for the purpose of analysis.
