This dataset presents information about the agricultural exposure of Australia for each financial year in the 2010 - 2015 period following the National Exposure Information System (NEXIS) valuation. This data is aggregated by the 2011 Australian Statistical Geographical Standard (ASGS) Statictical Area Level 1 (SA1) boundaries.
The NEXIS Agricultural Exposure web service is a set of ABS Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) and Local Government Areas (LGA) polygon layers providing national agricultural exposure information.
NEXIS Agriculture Exposure integrates the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) Gross Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced (VACP) by Statistical Area 1(SA1) with the Public Sector Mapping Agency (PSMA) cadastral parcels in areas identified as suitable for agricultural production. The purpose of the data is to provide Agricultural Exposure information at a high resolution, the cadastral parcel level, as an aid to decision making. The agriculture value estimates are derived by the multiplication of price and quantity estimates of agricultural commodities. Price information refers to the average unit value of a given commodity realised in the market place. Price information for livestock slaughtering and wool is obtained from ABS collections. Price information for other commodities is obtained from non-ABS sources, including marketing authorities and industry sources. NEXIS Agriculture Exposure is underlined by a bespoke land use classification method which enables the agricultural exposure data to be applied only against land classified as 'Agricultural'.
